Gallbladder cancer (GBC) is a rare disease. However, in Eastern India, GBC has a high incidence rate in West Bengal, Assam, and the northern and northeastern parts of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Orissa, says Dr Prosenjit Choudhury, a top gallbladder surgeon in Kolkata. Women are more at risk of developing GBC than men. In northern India, it is the most common digestive cancer among women. Apart from gallstones, gender, race, genetic predisposition, and lifestyle factors are associated with risks in GBC development.
